So Cal Earthquake Center - I lived in California from 1982 to 1999. During those years I became "educated" on the movement of the earth there; it fascinated me and always provided me with a rush of adrenalin. This site tracks and provides detailed information about each and every movement of the earth there. Notable quakes I have experienced include -

  1. Coalinga, CA - 1983 Magnitude 6.4, My first earthquake. I was in an Air Force hangar about 60 miles north, when the huge doors began to rumble and shake. It got pretty loud in there, but we didn't suffer any damage.
  2. Whittier Narrows, CA - 1987 Magnitudes 5.3, 5.9 hits 3 days later
  3. Loma Prieta, CA - 1989 Magnitude 7.1, Also known as the World Series Quake. Although I lived 400 miles south of the epicenter, this one gave us a pretty good ride down south.
  4. Landers, CA - 1992 Magnitude 7.2
  5. Big Bear, CA - 1992 Magnitude 6.6 (3 hours after Landers)
  6. California City, CA - 1992 Magnitude 5.7 (Officially called the Mojave Earthquake, but closest to the little town I lived in at the time. This was the worst I ever felt and the only one that ever scared me; 10 miles from epicenter, I had significant home damage)
  7. Northridge, CA - 1994 Magnitude 6.7

Intellicast National Severe Weather Radar Summary - In case you haven't noticed, the phenomena of the earth fascinates me. I am a weather buff, and yes, I have been known to sit and watch the weather channel. This site provides a complete radar image of the entire US, and you can zoom in on any portion of the country you choose. In the summer of 1998, a tornado came through my small community, and did a fair amount of damage in my neighborhood, including my house. Shortly after it passed, I pulled up this page, zoomed in on my locale, and discovered that a 55,000 foot cell had just passed over us, pretty much unheard of in southern California.
